My work has two main branches. The first branch concerns various issues in the philosophy of physics. These days, I’ve been working on the philosophy of gauge theory and the mathematical representation of spacetime in frontier physics.
The other branch concerns the interpretation of Hegel and the application of his thought to contemporary scientific and social matters. Generally, I am interested in the relationship between the experience of consciousness or thought and the apparently given natural world. I am therefore particularly interested in Hegel’s philosophy of nature and the metaphysics of his Science of Logic, as well as how his notion of nature can cohere with our best theories of physics. As for social matters, I find in Hegel’s ideas about Spirit and the historically situated-ness of the contents of experience a rich means of theorizing about topics like race, racism, gender, gendered injustice, and oppression.
