Working dissertation title: "Natural Rights and Punishment: How the Natural Rights Tradition Can Inform Our Thinking About Criminal Punishment"

My dissertation looks at moral issues in criminal punishment. In that project, I focus primarily on the problems that natural rights pose for criminal punishment, and how those problems bear on our understandings of political authority and political legitimacy. My other interests include the history of natural rights thought, philosophy of law, and applied ethics. When I'm not philosophizing, I'm playing jazz guitar.
