Opportunities for undergraduates

FUNDING FOR UNDERGRAD RESEARCH AT UIC

The next cycle of LAS Undergrad Research Initiative funding has been announced.  It is possible to get LASURI funding for a PHIL SENIOR THESIS PROJECT (where the PHIL 390 could be in EITHER fall 2019 or spring 2020). This would require you to apply to LASURI by their March 15, 2019 deadline.  You would of course also go through the department's Senior Thesis application process (some of the steps in which overlap with LASURIs).  Ideally you would keep this in mind or even do both applications together (i.e. do the Department one early.)  For further info on LASURI eligibility and program requirements, please see the LASURI website. For the Phil Senior Thesis application process see https://phil.uic.edu/philosophy/undergraduate-program/major/senior-thesis

SUMMER DIVERSITY INSTITUTES

The American Philosophical Association writes:
Diversity institutes such as PIKSI aim to give young philosophers the support and information they need to pursue a successful and meaningful career studying philosophy. The institutes were founded to address a lack of diverse representation in academic philosophy and thus focus on preparing women, people of color, LGBTQ+ folks, people with disabilities, first-generation students, and other diverse scholars for graduate study in philosophy.

In addition, UNC at Chapel Hill has a summer research apprenticeship program for students in a broad range of disciplines (MURAP: for info see https://murap.unc.edu)
