Film: The Feast of the Goat
Based on the critically acclaimed namesake novel, written by Peruvian Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, the film explores a number of current topics lying at the intersection of political philosophy, ethics, philosophy of gender and sex, and Latin American philosophy.
The film portrays the final days of one of the most ruthless tyrants in the history of the Americas, Rafael ‘The Goat’ Trujillo. Trujillo is the epitome of the ‘efficient’ Latin American strongman: while his country benefitted materially from his rule, Trujillo also brought about irreparable moral, spiritual and political debasement.
